  • JAZZ ONLY presents RE/GEN "A Groove Session"

    Jun 13, 2025

JAZZ ONLY presents RE/GEN "A Groove Session"

Jazz Only presents Re/Gen "A Groove Session" Jazz is a music of its time period, it should reflect the present. “Re/Gen” is the regeneration of Kansas City’s historic jazz culture through modern artists. The infusion of Hip-hop, R&B, Soul, Funk, and Jazz will be performed live in between sets from the DJ. The interchange between digital and visual art will resonate with the current state of popular music. To further merge music with culture, we have brought in multimedia artist Kodiak. Known for his exploration in looped, recycled video projections, Kodiak uses his tools much like an instrumentalist — improvising a live performance to create a stellar immersive experience. Run of show: The show will feature a house rhythm composition led by tenured jazz keyboardist, Eddie Moore, accompanied by a rotating cast featuring some of KC’s most forward thinking artists, including The Royal Chief (MC), Henry Scamurra (Sax), and YBC (Young Black Creatives). As the night continues, invited artists will join the team on stage for “friends sets” to reinforce the interchange between the artists and the audience. Together, the exchanges will dovetail musically to embody the cornerstone of Kansas City’s identity. Curated stage and visuals by Kodiak. Light design and video projection. *Doors at 7pm

  • SirQueens Disco Cathedral "Big Gay Disco" Edition

SirQueens Disco Cathedral "Big Gay Disco" Edition

SirQueens Disco Cathedral "Big Gay Disco" Edition "Without the contributions of Queer communities of color, trans artists, or the many brave pioneers of club culture who tilled the soil that gave life to the multicultural style of music known as Disco, there’d be no Disco Cathedral. This pride month, the Queer House Collective (Amanda, DJ Santi, Nick Steady, M.Luc, SirQueen) is taking you on a Big Gay Disco Cathedral excursion through the 4-to-the-floor discoverse of sound. Calling all the disconauts. Calling all the frea(Q)s. Calling those seeking the realness. Join us. Bring your friends. Bring your whole self. Unapologetically. Welcome to Disco Cathedral.” In the name of the fader, the sub, and the holy strobe light, join DJ Santi and the rest of the QHC crew for an evening of devout worship at SirQueen’s Disco Cathedral, ITLF, KCMO. Amen. ___ DJ Santi: A proud member of Kansas City's Queer House Collective, DJ Santi resides in the Crossroads neighborhood, weaving together the threads of local nightlife and supporting local DJs who dare to chase rhythms and remix their dreams. Inspired by legends like Frankie Knuckles, Danny Tenaglia, Underground Sound of Lisbon, and Deep Dish, this sonic alchemist curates minimal yet boundary-pushing tracks, always with an open ear for the vocals that stir the soul. Whether it's at a rave or an intimate club, Santi's sets are more than music — they are invitations to lose yourself, find yourself, and embrace the liberation of sound. Nick Steady: Nick began his journey as a DJ 25 years ago with roots in the late 90’s early 2000’s rave scene. At that time, his focus was on the burgeoning drum n bass sound until taking a step back from the scene around 2010. Even during this hiatus he never hung up his headphones for good. After the pandemic, he decided it was time to reemerge. This time around, however, he focused on his love for house. Though having cut his teeth on bass music, he had always been immersed in the sounds of house being close friends with many of the local djs of that genre over the years. Now he’s ready to show the dance floor his take on house, with selections of the latest tracks as well as classic anthems. SirQueen: SirQueen is a Kansas City-based DJ, producer, and founding member of the Queer House Collective--a group of queer-identifying underground DJs and producers. He's been djing house and disco in Kansas City and the surrounding region since 2019. An avid collector of classic house and disco records, SirQueen finds inspiration in the rich history of dance music, and pays homage to the pioneers who paved the way for future generations seeking to keep the groove alive. His sets are rooted in the pulsing energy of the disco beat, with a hearty dose of deep, chugging house and just the right amount of acid to tickle your sense in all the right ways.

  • Justin Carter (NYC) - All Night

Justin Carter (NYC) - All Night

Justin Carter (NYC) - All Night Justin Carter is an artist, musician and DJ as well as the co-founder of Nowadays, the Planetarium deep listening series, and the Mister Sunday and Mister Saturday Night parties. His practices of space making and music are intertwined, aligning to create moments for community and catharsis. Among his tools are turntables; his voice; records that create either vast, detailed scenes in the mind, the deep urge to move the body, or both; and even the words you are reading now. In his early teens, Justin started playing guitar and spending his nights at underground shows at makeshift venues in his small town in the southwest of Virginia. Arriving in NYC in the late 90s, he started performing at and putting on shows and parties in the early Brooklyn DIY scene, starting to DJ in 2003. He soon became a resident DJ, booking person and the label manager at Nublu and the Music Director and a resident DJ at APT, two of the last bastions of NYC underground dance music in the wake of 9/11 and the 90s culture wars. Between 2009 and 2011, Justin and fellow DJ Eamon Harkin started Mister Saturday Night and Mister Sunday, parties that happened mostly in friends’ loft spaces and back yards. In 2015, spurred by a need for more permanent space for their own parties as well as a desire to create space for the larger nightlife community, they opened Nowadays. Justin runs and regularly performs at a series called Planetarium, an event where people bring pillows, blankets and sleeping bags, lie in silence and listen deeply to music. He also co-owns Mister Saturday Night Records, a label that's released music and mixes by Suso Saiz, Esteban Adame, CCL, Anthony Naples, Musclecars, Avalon Emerson and Floating Points. As a musician, Justin has released an album of solo material called "The Leaves Fall" (2017) as well as collaborative EPs with The Twilite Tone and Move D. He also performed in the Chorus of Poets conducted by the late downtown experimental jazz musician Butch Morris. Opening Set by Mr.Bungalow
